Shirley Ann Sedlarik, age 88, of Three Rivers, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 3, 2025 in Kalamazo. She was born on September 5, 1936 in Durand, MI the daughter of Andrew and Anna (Gracias) Gomos. Shirley attended Durand High School and was part of the 1955 graduating class. Three years later, on August 30, 1958 she married David Sedlarik in Durand at St. Mary’s.
When Shirley was only 6 years old, her mother sadly passed away. Since that moment, her dedication to her family and her household have been unmatched. Running a home, doing chores, raising her 2-year-old brother, and keeping up with the day-to-day tasks, forces a young girl to grow up fast. Throughout her life Shirley continued to take care of those in need. Crocheting and donating blankets for babies in need through the pregnancy helpline; and ensuring the elderly in need of care had warm lap robes. Once in a while, Shirley would take care of herself, taking many trips with her family to Europe, Hawaii, and Mexico. Listening to Ray Charles and Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass while beating everyone at Scrabble was a must. She was an avid flower gardener and spent hours and hours weeding and watering up until the last week of her life. She enjoyed her many trips to Firekeepers with her family and her friends from St. Edward Catholic Church. Shirley loved her family very much and her loving way of giving will be missed.
Shirley is survived by her children; Shelly (Greg) Millard of Three Rivers, Valerie Cummings of Bend, OR, Teresa (Mitch) Miller of Decatur, MI, and Jeff Sedlarik of Mendon; two step-children; Melanie (Brent) Beaman of Linden, MI, and Douglas Sedlarik of Swartz Creek, MI; 12 grandchildren; Ben Millard, Julie Olson, Scott Millard, Breanna Barkley, Shannon Burstain, Joshua Miller, Andrew Miller, Steven Miller, Lucas Miller, Grace Franzel, Thomas Sedlarik, and step grandchild William Winer; 20 great-grandchildren; siblings; brother Thomas (Jeanette) Gomos; step-sister Diane (Wayne) Dysinger; and many nieces, nephews, and extended families. She was preceded in passing by her parents Andrew and Anna Gomos; step mother Marge Gomos; step brother Terry Welch; and her husband of 65 years, David Sedlarik.
A rosary will be held on Friday, August 8, 2025 at 4pm with visiting hours beginning at 4:30 until 8pm at the Eickhoff Funeral Home in Mendon. A funeral mass will take place on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at 12pm at St. Edward Catholic Church in Mendon with Msgr. Thomas Martin officiating. Following mass, burial will be held at St. Edward Catholic Cemetery. It is suggested that donations be made to either St. Jude Children’s Hospital or St. Edward Catholic Church.
