A 27-year-old man, whose name and community of residence was not disclosed, was charged with assault and battery Monday. The man was arrested by Three Rivers police after its officers responded to a situation on West Street. Time of the incident was not included in a department media release.

An Elkhart youth has pleaded guilty to animal cruelty in connection with the fireworks-related death of a dog. Two members of the St. Joseph County Parks and Recreation Commission were reappointed to the 10-member panel this week. During Tuesday’s St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners meeting, Steve Houts and Jeffrey Knautz were re-appointed to three-year terms. Houts, a commissioner, is a Fabius Township resident. Knautz, who currently serves as president of the commission, lives in Centreville.
