Enrollment for the 2017-18 academic year is higher than expected at Centreville Public Schools, the district’s board of education learned Monday. Items stolen from Sherwood Township home

A residence in Branch County’s Sherwood Township was broken in to earlier this month, according to state police. The incident occurred between 7 a.m. Aug. 15 and 7:30 p.m. Aug. 18 in the 1300 block of Haughey Drive. The victim told investigators an assortment of items was stolen.

County unemployment goes up

July’s unemployment rate in St. Joseph County was 1.3 percent higher than the previous month. The monthly labor-market analysis by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget showed the county’s 5.1 percent July unemployment rate marked an increase from June’s 3.8 percent.
