House approves dark-sky preserve plan in Cass County

The Michigan House has approved state Rep. Aaron Miller’s plan to designate Dr. T.K. Lawless County Park in Cass County as a dark-sky preserve. Miller’s legislation, which received overwhelming bipartisan support Tuesday, is expected to create educational and recreational opportunities. Moped stolen in Constantine

A moped was stolen from a location in Constantine Township last week. State police troopers were called to the 14000 block of Riverside Drive, where the Tao Tao brand moped was stolen Feb. 18. The moped, which is black and silver in color, was taken between 7:30 and 10 a.m.

Three Rivers receives MEDC grant

A St. Joseph County municipality was one of nine Michigan communities to receive a portion of $250,000 in grants aimed at supporting small, local businesses, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation announced this week. White Pigeon man injured in plane crash

A White Pigeon man was one of three people involved in an airplane crash over the weekend in Branch County. Patrick Murphy was at the control of the single-engine plane Saturday when it belly crashed at Branch County Regional Airport in Coldwater. ISD superintendent receives highly effective rating

Teresa Belote, superintendent of St. Joseph County Intermediate School District, received a “highly effective” rating recently from ISD board members. Campaign sign stolen

State police are investigating the theft of a campaign sign. The sign, promoting sheriff candidate Gordon Evilsizor, was stolen between Feb. 16 and this past Saturday. The sign was posted on the south side of U.S. 12, just west of Mann Road in Mottville Township, according to investigators.
