Balk serves final day as sheriff

Friday was the last day Brad Balk will serve as St. Joseph County Sheriff, and two public events took place to commemorate the occasion. Man who killed girl when they were teens gets new sentence

A man convicted of killing his pregnant girlfriend when they were teenagers in 1993 has been sentenced to at least 25 years in prison. The new sentence gives Robert Leamon an opportunity for release after his earlier no-parole sentence was set aside by a Cass County judge. Breaking and entering in Lockport Township

State police troopers are investigating a breaking-and-entering incident at the Three Rivers Community Players Club in Lockport Township. The group’s building is located by Walmart. Authorities said the incident occurred between 9 a.m. Jan. 13, and 6 p.m. Jan. 14. Further details about the theft were not available in a department media release.

Woman arrested in stolen RV

A woman was arrested after she allegedly stole a recreational vehicle in Cass County.
